Does Size Really Matter?

"Hmm, what's that?" you ask...

Let's look a little closer. See if you can figure it out.

Do you see what I see buried in those baskets? That's right. You are looking at my yarn stash.

I recently had a discussion about stash with some knitting friends where I confessed my eagerness to know their number. We didn't talk numbers, but we did share where/how our stash was organized. I've had this chat with other friends before and I occasionally bring it up to make myself feel better about my own stashing issues (I go back and forth with whether or not I think I have a ridiculous stash). I love yarn. No, I really love yarn. I'm what you might call a yarnaholic or yarn addict. In fact, I think that is the real reason why I love knitting... for the soft, plump skeins of heavenliness.

This week, I decided it was high time that I share my stash with you - come clean about my addiction. In order to do this the right way (the organized way), I took pictures of everything and loaded them onto Ravelry. I admit there were a few Ziploc bags of yarn I did not include because these bags were full of nameless partial skeins. Otherwise, my stash page on Ravelry is up to date (and there you will find "my number").

Let's talk organization:
- The top left small basket is full of current projects.
- Next to that is my fingering/lace weight yarn
- Next to that is my sport weight yarn
- Top right is my dk weight yarn
- Bottom left (big) basket is exploding with my worsted weight yarn
- Bottom right (big) basket has all of the bulky/super bulky yarn plus my knitting tools (swift, winder,  needle cases minus my blocking mats/pins) and a couple more bags of worsted weight.

This picture was taken months ago, in February I think. However, the organization is still the same. Although many items have been added since then. Including:

Brooklyn Tweed's Shelter

Quince & Co.'s Chickadee

Schoppel-Wolle's Crazy Zauberball

Handmaiden's Casbah

Plymouth's Superwash DK

Madelinetosh's Tosh Sock
Berroco's Vintage

Berroco's Vintage

Berroco's Vintage
Believe it or not, I am making progress on de-stashing. All 5 sweaters from my 12 in 2012 have been made with stash yarn.  And I have specific plans for all of the above purchases from the past 6 months.

Okay, now it is your turn. Fess up. What is your number? And how do you plan to de-stash? Gifts for friends and family? Your own 12 in 2012? Sell? Give it away? Hmm, that's not a bad idea. I think I feel a yarn give-away coming on...

  1. I have absolutely no idea. I have tons of acrylic worsted - from projects past, projects planned before I started becoming a yarn "snob," and gifts from others (I'm using scraps in my never-ending afghan). Between MyHoney and I, we have 2 plastic bins of yarns from KnitPicks and other venues and then there's sock yarn - which, thankfully, doesn't count as stash!!

    1. Wait a second, how does sock yarn not count at stash yarn?
